Your Questions About Acoustic Guitar Tuner Online

Thomas asks…

How can you teach yourself to play the acoustic guitar?

Is it possible to teach yourself how to play the guitar from the comfort of your own home?

Is there such thing as an online tuner? The part that I struggle most with is tuning the guitar.

Are there any useful sites or books that can help me learn basic cords and songs? Your help is much appreciated.

admin answers:

There are online tuners. They don’t actually tune your guitar for you but show you the sound each string makes. The easiest thing top do is buy a chromatic tuner.

To learn chords, I just have a chord book that I use. It has most every chord in it. They also have chord finders, where you insert the chord you want to know and it tells you what variations there are.

To learn songs, I use tabs. Just search for tabs for the song you want to learn. Some tabs are bad, but most of them are pretty accurate.

Nancy asks…

How to tune an acoustic guitar by EAR?

Ok I can do it by an electirc tuner but how do I do it by ear? I’ve been trying do it but I have a hard time getting String 1 to E with out the tuner? I cant seem to get it, I’ve watched videos read things online. I’ve been using an online tuner to try and match the sounds. Is it just because the online tuner is bad?

admin answers:

Get an E or an A tuning fork and then you can tune the guitar by ear by using the fifth fret and fourth fret for the pertinent string tuning. The E tuning fork will assist in tuning both E strings. With those in tune you can then tune the remaining strings in the fifth fret except for the B string, which is tuned in the fourth fret from the G string.

I trust this hasn’t confused you.

Steven asks…

How do I tune my Acoustic guitar?

I can’t buy a tuner right now, and Im having a lot of trouble with the online “tuners”

ALL of the chords are untuned and I don’t know how to tune them. Therefor, I can’t play my guitar :(

admin answers:

Actually it’s pretty easy, and you don’t need a tuner. It helps a lot, but it isn’t what one always uses when tuning the guitar. You do it by ear. Or, starting out, if you know the E, the largest string, you can tune each other string from after.

After you find out what E is, you hold down the 5th fret on that string and play it. Then you play the next string up, A. Keep tuning A until the sound is the same when you were holding the 5th fret on the 1st string. You do that for each one except on the G string, the 4th, where you hold the 4th fret and tune the 2nd to last string, B, to that.

Maria asks…

Buying an acoustic guitar for someone, and I know nothing about guitars. Do I need a tuner?

So I want to buy an acoustic guitar for my boyfriend for Christmas. He does know how to play, and he has an old electric right now. I’ve heard him say multiple times that he was going to buy an acoustic. I know he probably just doesn’t have the money for that though. I was looking at some good acoustics online and I think I have the one I want picked out. However, I don’t know anything about the tuner aspect. Should I get him a tuner as well? I don’t even know if there are reasonably priced ones. I don’t know if he has one for his electric or anything, really. I can’t exactly ask because he’d know I was up to something… I want this to be a complete surprise. I really need to know more about this, and fast. I want everything to be here by christmas so I have to start ordering!

admin answers:

A tuner is a great accessory. For acoustic guitars the best tuners clip on to the headstock. You can never go wrong with a IntelliTouch like this one:

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Intellitouch-PT10-Mini-ClipOn-Tuner?sku=502816

It’s reasonably priced and very accurate. Plus, since it tunes by vibrations it can be used even when there’s a lot of noise in the room.

Good luck.

Jenny asks…

I just bought an acoustic guitar off of eBay?

Here’s the link to what I recently purchased off of eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BLACK-Acoustic-Guitar-GIGBAG-STRAP-TUNER-LESSON-/250789026157?pt=Guitar&hash=item3a6430d96d#ht_2684wt_964

Please read the full page from the link to come to a conclusion and answer.

Well, I’ve really wanted an acoustic guitar for a while, so when I found that one on eBay considering the price and stuff included, I sort of jumped at the offer. So, a couple of days after ordering this, I’ve been reading some articles and stuff online saying that buying acoustic guitars off of eBay are a bad idea. Is this true, in my case? And by “in my case,” I mean taking into consideration the official brand name, guarantees, price, etc. all as stated in the page from the link above. So short and simple, after reading the page from the link, do you still think it was a bad idea to order that acoustic guitar off of eBay? I’m just checking to make sure, because honestly in my opinion, the feedback and official look of it got me before I asked anyone else’s opinion, but I still thought it was a good deal. Thanks for any and all answers in advance!
Okay, I can admit that some acoustic guitars can be really bad when purchased online because you don’t have the chance to hold them and try them out. But seriously, you kind of have to take into consideration the reviews and feedback for the specific guitar I’ve ordered. An acoustic guitar is an acoustic guitar, the authorized company could not possibly sell something so outrageous as a “toy” or even a classical acoustic guitar, it’s JUST an acoustic guitar…just to get that out of the way…and I also don’t understand how it’s so cheap either. I’ve done some reading up on the preferred materials of acoustics and this one definitely has some of the quality materials. Maybe you’re just really skeptical or don’t believe in an honest deal. Because if you were the least bit optimistic about the purchase, you might have taken the time to look at the “Top-rated seller” label along with “Consistently receives buyers’ highest ratings” and “Has earned a track record of excellent service” label

admin answers:

My problem with the item is that it is made in China. So you are going to get what you paid for; a cheap guitar. Sorry, but for that price and type of guitar, I’d have gone down to like Wal-Mart or something. Or to my local music shop, most of which sell used guitars at reasonable prices that might be a better deal.

On the other hand, you did not spend much money, so you can drag it around anyplace and not worry about it. But don’t expect it to hold tuning well or have a good sound, either, really.

IF / WHEN you learn to play well and learn to understand guitars, take a look at US made ones – like Martin guitars, made in Pennsylvani, by hand. Are they more expensive? Sure – but they SOUND GREAT, play well and get even more mellow and joyous with age.

As to buying guitars on ebay, I know a lot of folks that have done it and been thrilled – even when buying GOOD, expensive guitars. And I’ve known a few that regretted their purchase as well. So it is sometimes a tough choice. Bottom line – if you really want a GOOD guitar with GREAT sound – you need to hold it in your hand and PLAY it before you shell out the money – and you just can’t do that on the internet.

Good luck, though.

How do you turn off guitar hero guitar sounds made when you make a mistake?

When you make a mistake on guitar hero, the actual guitar (for wii, it’s the wiimote) makes a sounds. How do you turn off that sound so that it doesn’t play when you make a mistake?

admin answers:

The controller is usually used for the person with the microphone, but you need a guitar hero controller if you want to play guitar for Guitar Hero games passed Legends of Rock (3)- you’re just going to have to buy one. Sorry :( You can get a wireless one for about $40 on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-2-Guitar-Hero-Wireless/dp/B000I5X65S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301724049&sr=8-1

The Beatles: Rock Band does not feature the orange pad on drums, so you use Green, Red, Yellow and Blue only. Simple as that.

Your Questions About Electric Guitar Parts

Steven asks…

I’m making a guitar out of old electric guitar parts, and I need tips?

Right now what I have…

An old Lotus Strat, which I need to sand all of the paint off the body untill it is just wood, I am about 2 percent there. I have the neck, all of the original electronics, and the pickguards, and it is completely dismantled.

What I want to acheive…

1. Is to take ALL of the paint off of the body, so it is just a wood body.

2. To take the logo off of the headstock somehow, (the guitar neck is just wood).

3. To update the electronics (All the wires, the pickups, the input jack, everything) to achieve a good quality sound, for a really good clean almost jazzy sound.

4. ( Not required ) To give the guitar body some color, by staining the wood. ( I was thinking of staining the wood a blood red with black swirls )

My question is…

How do I go about doing all of this, getting the best quality I possibly can, and spending the least amount of money possible? Also, what is time frame frame I am looking at here? Any input is appreciated!

admin answers:

What you want to do is possible, It will be a “labor of love” Depending on how it goes it could take from a month or so to over a year, depending on how much time you put into it and if you could get all the parts you need

David asks…

can you use a electric guitar to play bass parts?

i only have electric an acustic guitar but i was wondering if you can use them to play bass can you will it be the same what is the diffrence?

admin answers:

The first four strings on a guitar are tuned the same as those on a bass, the notes are just a few octaves up. You could potentially play bass parts but they wouldnt be as low, unless you got an octivizer pedal.

Your Questions About Acoustic Guitar

Steven asks…

What is the difference between an electric acoustic guitar and a acoustic guitar?

Im planning to buy my first guitar soon and i am leaning towards the acoustic guitar, i was looking online and i found there was such thing as an electric acoustic guitar, now i am caught in between both, which one should i get and what is the difference.

admin answers:

An electric acoustic guitar is just a acoustic guitar with a built in pick up so you can plug it into a amp or pa. An regular acoustic cannot plug in to a amp and be amplified except using a microphone to mic to the guitar.

Nancy asks…

What is the best beginner acoustic guitar to buy?

My aim is to learn the acoustic guitar and then move on to the bass guitar.
I was thinking about buying the Yamaha FG700 acoustic but then i was given advice saying that Yamaha is crap and the Johnson acoustic guitars are better and cheaper.
I want to make sure that when i finally buy my acoustic guitar, i don’t start wishing i bought a different one.

admin answers:

No matter what guitar you buy, you’re probably going to wish you’d bought a different one. It’s the nature of things.

That said, I have zero experience with Johnson guitars (never heard of them). But I’ve played some good Samicks and Corts. Then there’s the low-end Epiphones and Squires (owned by Gibson and Fender, respectively). Of course, if you’d like to try something totally different, you may look at an Applause by Ovation — they have a round, Lycra back, which greatly changes the feel of them. Although a bit of warning: people generally either love or loathe round-back guitars; there’s very little middle-ground.

The key is to play as many as you can lay your hands on and find out which guitar feels the most comfortable in your hands; if it’s not comfortable to play, then you’re never going to play it. Then eventually you can move up and get a Gibson, Taylor, or Martin (the real King of the Acoustic Guitar).

Sharon asks…

How do I choose the right electric-acoustic guitar?

I’m going to buy an electric-acoustic guitar in the coming weeks, but I really don’t know how to judge them. I feel I’ve made good choices with my other guitars (acoustic and electric), but I haven’t had much experience with the hybrid. Do I hold them to the same standards of feel and sound as an acoustic? Should an electric-acoustic sound just as good unplugged as an acoustic does? Should I go for a straight pickup system, or a mic-and-pickup?

Any answers at all would be very appreciated.

admin answers:

It depends – are you going to use it mainly plugged in or acoustic? If you already have a good acoustic then it’s plugged in sound is the most important, right? Takamine makes some laminate top guitars with their premium pick-up system (Nt4, I think) – they sound weak acoustically but sound perfect plugged in. If you want the best of both worlds, try the Alvarez Artist Series – you get a choice of body styles and woods and a great pick-up system (Sys 600). You can plug a mic into the system. Going up the $$$ scale, Taylor’s expression system sounds great, as does the Fishman Aura system that Martin uses on some guitars. I would avoid the standard systems on Epiphones and Ibanez etc – they sound too electric. Make sure you try them out with the type of amplifier or PA you are going to use – it makes a big difference, some pick-up systems have an “exciter” to make guitar amps sound more acoustic.
In a band situation, mic systems always seem to feed back – I would use one only if you play solo – or maybe a duo with low volume monitors. Good Luck

Linda asks…

what are the differences between acoustic guitar and electric guitar ?

1 . what are the differences between acoustic guitar and electric guitar ?
2 . when you play one of them , can you also play the other one or you have to take different classes ?
3 . if yes , Is it atleast easier to learn acoustic when you know electric ?

admin answers:

There are two types of acoustic… Steel stringed and classical or Spanish style nylon stringed… But there are also steel stringed electric/acoustic guitars. Acoustics rely on the body cavity to amplify the sound and resonate through the tone wood.

Electric guitars are either semi-hollow or solid bodied and rely on the magnetic pickups to translate the string vibration into an electric signal for an amplifier to “amplify” and send through a speaker or 2 or 4 or… The guitar/amp instrument of course gives you a lot of playability options with tone and distortion, reverb, etc…

Being able to play either type of guitar usually translates to playing any other, but… A lot people have bad habits that are masked by the nature of the electric guitar, and won’t be when they play acoustic. So to go from acoustic to electric I would argue is easier.

Betty asks…

What is the difference between electric guitar straps and acoustic guitar straps?

I am taking acoustic guitar lessons soon.. but I don’t have a strap for it, i own an electric guitar and i have a strap for it… can i use the electric guitar strap for the acoustic guitar?

admin answers:

The only difference between an electric guitar strap and an acoustic guitar strap is that you must first plug in the electric guitar strap.

Your Questions About Electric Guitar Tuner

Daniel asks…

What is a electric guitar tuner that can tune my guitar in differnt tunings like drop d,half step ect.?

i saw something called boss tu-80 can that do the job?

admin answers:

The boss tu-80 is really good, my friend who plays both guitar and base has one and it works for both stringed instruments. I think the boss tu-80 consts about 30 bucks and its a good tool to have.

A cheaper alternative is also the “Korg CA30 Chromatic Tuner”

http://www.zzounds.com/item–KORCA30

however it can be a little confusing how to use at first and you have to learn your sharps and flats and how they relate to the tunings you want.

For the meantime, and easy solution you can use is pitch references. Look up

http://www.howtotuneaguitar.org/

they have a lot of useful tunings. You can choose whatever tuning you like then you just match the your strings with what they have.

Jenny asks…

would a electric guitar tuner work on a bass?

i have an electric guitar tuner but i recently bought a bass guitar

i was wondering if it would work just the same
and if i would what are the string names and is there any specific way to do it

admin answers:

It should without any problem if it is a chromatic tuner. I have used a guitar tuner in the past without any problems. The first string on the top looking down the thickest one is E then A Then D Then G. Some Tuners have a setting for a bass guitar. What is the model and make of the tuner i can help you better with this information and give you a definitive answer. I use a Boss Chromatic pedal tuner tu-2 for Guitar and Bass it is the best tuner i have ever used if you are serious about playing these are great especially if you use alternate tunings and low tuning Like C Standard. They are 99.00 online and worth every penny!

Hope This Helps!

P.S. Give me more info and i will try to help you as best as i can.

William asks…

Tunig with electric guitar tuner?

How do I tune my guitar with an electric tuner? I have a squier fender electric tuner. Does the cable go in the “in” hole or the “out hole”?

admin answers:

Put that jack in the in hole, the out hole is used in case you want to hook it up to a special effects pedal/amp while tuning and not wanting to take the tuner on and off etc.
You want to tune starting with the smalist string upwards like so:
E,B,G,D,A,E

if it stats getting to high… Youll know and then go backwards untill you get the right note because there are differnt levels of each letter note

John asks…

Electric guitar tuner?

I was wondering if you buy a guitar tuner, well how exactly does it work?
like if you wanted it in drop B, would it tell you?
sorry if this is a dumb question, i just havnt used one before

admin answers:

Hi Ashley

A guitar tuner will detect a drop B. Most tuners give you a choice of high, medium ,low range but generally, it will detect it for sure.
